Our processional cross was made by the people of Tecomate Cooperative in La Palma, El Salvador. The Spanish phrase la nueva creacion announces “the new creation” that results from Jesus’ death and resurrection. The sun reminds us of the risen Jesus. The mountains’ colours evoke different kinds of vegetation. Plants, animals and birds proclaim that all of creation is renewed in the cross of Christ. Around Jesus’ feet is a circle of houses. Just below, a bird in a tongue of fire rests on the heads of a group of women (most of the cooperative members are women), both reminders that Christ pours His Spirit on all people from the cross and draws them into community.
